Nintendo game - BomberMan 2

Bomberman 2 is the 1991 sequel to the 1987 Bomberman NES game by Hudson Soft. Bomberman 2 utilizes the same concepts as the original but vastly improves upon the weak points of its predecessor. It's an excellent entry of the puzzle genre and requires more thinking skills than button mashing, making it appropriate for a wide audience of all ages and genders.

The game begins with the protagonist of the previous game, the White Bomberman, being framed by the Black Bomberman for robbing a bank. The police take the White Bomberman to prison, wherein he begins his daring escape by going through each level blowing up brick walls and enemies, collecting power-ups, and finding the exit. Unlike the previous game, Bomberman 2 has better graphics and finer audio. It also breaks the monotony of the levels by adding 6 different settings - the prison, forest, mountain, swamp, cave, and back to prison again - with 8 stages each, bringing it up to a total of 48 levels. At the very end, the White Bomberman catches up to the Black Bomberman and forces him to confess to the crime, thus serving justice.

The Bomberman 2 game utilizes a maze-chase style similar to Pac-Man. The main offensive weapons available to the player are bombs that explode after a set number of seconds. The player uses these bombs to corner enemies into brick walls and eliminate them. After all enemies are defeated, Bomberman must find the level's exit hidden within one of the walls. There is a time limit so these two objectives must be completed before the clock runs out. To aid him, power-ups that can increase the number of bombs, blast range, and invulnerability status are available throughout the levels. As the game progresses, the enemies get more difficult to corner and will start to actively chase the player. If Bomberman gets caught in his own bomb blast or captured by an enemy, the player loses a life. The game ends when all 48 levels are cleared or if the player has no more game lives left.

Bomberman 2 has a Versus Mode where two players can fight in a single maze and try to corner each other with bombs, as well as a Battle Mode where three players can compete if they have the NES Four Score accessory for the console. Bomberman 2 also comes with a continue option for gamers to input a password and pick up where they left off.

Overall, the sequel is an excellent continuation of the original saga. The Bomberman series does not end with this entry and is still going strong today with releases in modern consoles. Nothing beats the simple but elegant mechanics of the original Bomberman NES games, however, and playing Bomberman 2 online will give players a taste of the best.
