Jackal Game

Jackal NES is a slightly lesser known classic. It is a very fun and fast paced game that has you controlling a jeep across a variety of levels while you fight through an opposing army. The Jackal game is one or two player, and going through legions of enemies can be a lot easier with a friend.

You jeep starts off with just a basic gun and a weak grenade attack. However, you can find upgrades to more powerful grenades and eventually even a rocket launcher. The final upgrade spreads out quite a bit and the blast can even attack enemies through walls.

The levels and enemies are all quite different. You have to deal with opposing tanks, jeeps, planes,trains boats, enemy soldiers, and more. You will fight across varied terrain like deserts, swamps, and forests. You can rescue hostages by breaking them out of prison and bringing them to the helipad, usually about 2/3 of the way through every level. If you are not fast enough, the helicopter will pass by the helipad, and your hostages cannot be picked up. This adds a sense of timing and pressure to the game.

The control is very good, although you will always shoot your machine gun straight ahead. This takes a little getting used to. Your special weapon fires in whatever way the jeep is facing, which is more intuitive. Jackal Nintendo has been called "like Contra, but with Jeeps". That description is quite adequate. Take control of one of the best jeeps in the world, and show the enemy what you are capable of.
