game "Megaman 3" is loading.....
Following the huge success of MegaMan 2 NES game, Capcom released the Nintendo 8 bit MegaMan 3 in 1990. Also known as Rockman 3: The End of Dr. Wily!?, this second sequel in the Mega Man franchise builds on the foundations laid down by Mega Man 1 and Mega Man 2 and adds quite a few unique features of its own that will be used in future entries. Mega Man 3 boasts an impressive sales figure of one million copies worldwide and has been ranked by many as one of the top games of all time.
The story picks up after Mega Man defeats Dr. Wily, the renegade robot inventor bent on world domination, in MegaMan 2. Once again, the evil doctor manages to convince the world that he is a changed man after being bested in battle. Wily and Dr. Light, his former partner and Mega Man's creator, put aside their differences and work towards world peace. They invent Gamma, a gigantic peace-keeping robot, but need to acquire eight powerful crystals which are currently in the possession of eight rogue robot masters in order to activate him. Mega Man takes it upon himself to retrieve these eight crystals so that Gamma can be completed and bring peace to the planet.
The game is basically the same as the previous two entries. Mega Man 3 is an action-platformer that involves jumping over obstacles and destroying enemies along the way. At the end of every level, MegaMan has to defeat the robot master - Needle Man, Snake Man, Gemini Man, Magnet Man, Hard Man, Top Man, Shadow Man, or Spark Man - of that specific stage and acquire his power if he's successful. The game is also non-linear and players may pick which robot master to battle first. All the successful elements of the first two games are still present and are as streamlined as ever. The controls are tightly-tuned, and the soundtrack, level themes, and enemies are also creatively designed.
However, MegaMan 3 isn't just another rehash. It introduces the slide function not present in the previous two games. In this entry, Mega Man can now slide on the floor to avoid enemies, duck under obstacles, and traverse the level faster. Mega Man 3 introduces two central characters in the form of Rush, Mega Man's robotic canine sidekick, and Proto Man, Mega Man's older brother who went AWOL shortly after being created by Drs. Light and Wily during their old partnership. This third installment allows a maximum of nine energy tanks that can be used to refill the health meter instead of the previous game's four. Mega Man 3 also features the eight bosses from Mega Man 2 in four special levels within the game, requiring the player to defeat them again and making the robot masters sixteen in total.
Overall, MegaMan 3 NES was a critical and commercial success. The only drawback was the insane difficulty level, which some players felt was too challenging. Two decades later, this game still packs quite a punch. Playing MegaMan 3 online and acquiring the MegaMan 3 rom allows you to revisit this timeless classic.
