Nintendo game - Super Contra

When earth was saved from the evil Red Falcon and its minions in Contra, we thought our heroes Bill and Lance could finally take a break from fighting and go sip pina coladas off the coast of Tahiti. Fortunately for gamers, Konami decided the pair weren't the vacationing type and put them right back where they belong: running and gunning while hordes of enemies attack in endless waves.

Super Contra, which also goes by the names Super C and Probotector 2: Return of the Evil Forces, is the 1990 sequel to the highly successful Contra game by Konami. In Super Contra, two players once again take on the role of elite commandos Bill and Lance, two strapping young men with an unusually agile high jump, as they battle all forms of menacing men, cruel contraptions, and awful aliens. Although the game can be played alone, its appeal and massive popularity lies in the two-player mode where you and a buddy could team up, kick butt, and pat each other on the back after every level.

The Super Contra game is a basic side-scroller: Bill and Lance continuously move east and blast enemies along the way. Sometimes the levels take an overhead view to mix things up as well as offer a vertical ascent instead of the standard horizontal running, but the basic movement and controls remain the same. The duo start with default weapons which fire a single projectile with every button-press. The set weapon works well in earlier levels, but pretty soon it's imperative to upgrade by shooting down flying capsules that contain a power-up.

They come in the form of the machine gun which fires a steady stream of slugs, the spread which scatters bullets in an expanded range, the laser which sends a beam of highly damaging light, and the fire gun which releases deadly flames that explode on contact. There's also an occasional special item that destroys every visible enemy onscreen, a barrier bonus that gives you temporary invulnerability, and a rapid fire item that increases your firing rate. The player never runs out of bullets, so ammunition is not a problem.

At the end of every level are bosses. Unlike other games, these bosses are unique from each other and were made with considerable creative effort, each one varying in form and attack pattern starting from the first, a war chopper, all the way to the last, a human-alien robotic hybrid. Although the satisfyingly repetitive run-and-gun gameplay is enough to render hours of enjoyment, the varying villains and levels add even more satisfaction and solidity.

Super Contra was one of the games in the early 90's which every kid just had to have and would go out on a limb to get one. Parents who caved in eventually regretted their decision when their son, his brother, and the entire neighborhood kids would hunker down in front of the TV every Saturday and yell to their hearts content. Even though those days are long gone, the ability to play Super Contra online and the availability of Super Contra roms will hopefully bring back some of the memories of those carefree times. Just be sure to keep it down this time.

Now that you have played one of the best, it's tme to play double dragon online! Or, if you are feeling hungry for the old days, then the pacman nintendo game may be just the thing for you. When you are done with that, you should play megaman 6 online or try a game or two of the classic tecmo super bowl online.
