game "Super Contra 7" is loading.....
You know the gaming industry has reached an all time low when Super Contra 7 was even allowed to see the light of day. Released by an obscure company called E-S-C in 1996, Super Contra 7 was an illegal knock-off of the popular Contra series by Konami. The characters, basic controls, and enemies are copied from the original franchise with minor flaws, but the overall gameplay is terrible. In a bit of prophetic insight, the company who created this nightmare was aptly named E-S-C, because gamers would want to escape from this abomination as soon as possible.
The story begins with... nothing. You're immediately taken to the first level as Bill or Lance from the Contra series. The gameplay follows the tried-and-tested run 'n gun method of Contra by continuously going east and jumping over obstacles as hordes of enemies come after you. The player can shoot unlimited projectiles while power-ups are collected later on to upgrade weapons. So far, so good. But things go downhill from there.
The music is a basic 8-bit tune, but there is absolutely no discernible melody to it; it's just a lot of noise that will induce a massive migraine after overexposure. The enemies are cheaply copied off the series and lack imagination whatsoever; they follow a basic pattern that is eventually repeated all throughout the five levels. The game difficulty is also way too hard for a shooter. To make matters worse, the controls are clunkier compared to the original Contra which makes dodging projectiles no easy feat.
The Nintendo Contra series was well-known for its bosses, who vary both in design and attack pattern. Super Contra 7 throws everything out the window by having all five bosses follow a generic formula with little variation. This usually involves the boss circling around in the air firing projectiles while a random enemy runs across the bottom of the screen to distract the player. After enduring this insanely repetitive gameplay five times, your stomach will start to turn. To add insult to injury, the hit detection is terrible, and the player's projectiles often pass through the boss despite aiming for the weak point, making this game much more frustrating than it already is. At the very end, after finally beating the last boss, a few Japanese words are presented as a form of congratulations, and the game loops back to level one. Talk about a fulfilling closure.
Few games, no matter how badly made, are ever as insulting to players. Contra 7 has the dishonor of being one of those. Unlike the unauthorized Somari, which was clever in its own right and made a small contribution to the gaming world by porting the Sonic mechanics to the NES, Super Contra 7 did absolutely nothing to enhance gaming experience. If you're looking for a solid run 'n gun game for the NES, the original Contra and Super C will not disappoint. If you want to see your dignity shattered, then playing Super Contra 7 online will not disappoint as well.
Having fun yet? Well there are plenty more NES games online right here like castlevania 1 and the mike tyson punch out game to name a couple of popular titles. We also have the mario brothers rom and another version of the game punch out online. So, stick around and play some more!
