Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Tournament Game

TMNT Tournament Fighter was one of the last games released for the NES in the early 90s. It is unique in that it is one of the only two real "tournament" style fighting games for the NES, the other one being Urban Champion. The story follows a classic Ninja Turtles formula. Shredder has kidnapped your master, Splinter, and to decide who is worthy to fight Shredder, the turtles duke it out among themselves and their friends.

If you are not playing the story mode, you can pick from one of seven different characters. Shredder, Leonardo, Ralphael, Michelangelo, Donatello, Casey Jones, and Hothead. Every character has the same basic controls and can block, punch, kick, run, and jump. However, they all have a unique special move as well.

If you are playing the story mode, you have to play as one of the four turtles to rescue Splinter. This makes the game a little on the short side, as you only have to play through six stages. There is a little bit of replay value though, because you can do it with four different characters.

For a fighting game on the NES, this game is pretty good. The characters are different enough to make it matter, and the graphics and controls are both pretty reasonable. Finding an actual copy of the game is pretty hard, so you are probably better off looking for an emulator version of TMNT Tournament Fighter. Now what are waiting for? Go out there and rescue Splinter!
